Storage and Operation Notes of Molecular Sieves
Molecular sieves absorb moisture very easily, therefore should avoid exposure to air when stored and be placed in dry places. For those molecular sieves that have stored for a long time and have absorbed moisture, regeneration should be done before use.
Molecular sieves should be kept away from oil and liquid water. Oil is likely to be carbonized and then block the holes of molecular sieves during the regeneration process. For the gas containing oil content, the oil should be separated before entering the molecular sieve beds. Heat release will happen when molecular sieves absorb moisture, therefore a lot of heat will be released in a short period of time when liquid water is directly exposed to molecular sieves. This is the time when risks are easy to happen and the qualities of molecular sieves are likely to be damaged.
When molecular sieve beds running under pressure are experiencing regenerative switches, the internal bed pressure should be slowly decreased. If the pressure reduction process is conducted too quickly, particles of molecular sieves maybe smashed into powder. During the regeneration, the higher temperature is, the safer regeneration process will be, but at the same time the regeneration energy consumption is higher which may lead to the reduction of molecular sieves life. Therefore the regeneration temperature should be 170-300°C and normally should not exceed 500°C, otherwise molecular sieves would lose activity.
